Solving Marriage Struggles

Your marriage may be stuck because you are both waiting for the other person to move first.

You are waiting for them to apologize. They are waiting for you to soften.

You are waiting for them to become easier to love. They are waiting for you to become easier to respect.

So, no one moves.

Instead, every disagreement becomes more evidence for why the other person needs to change first.

But while you are focused on your spouse’s disobedience, you stop paying attention to your own.

Ephesians 5 gives both spouses an assignment. Husbands are called to love their wives as Christ loved the church. Wives are called to respect and submit to their husbands as unto the Lord.

But God never told either spouse to police the other person’s obedience.

Your spouse’s failure to obey God does not release you from your responsibility to obey Him.

You can love before they soften. You can respect before they get everything right. You can obey God before your marriage feels fair.

The breakthrough may begin when one person stops keeping score and decides to go first.

Stop reviewing your spouse’s assignment.

Ask yourself, “What has God told me to do that I keep postponing?”

Then do it today.
