This is what Jesus said to the crowd when they were considering becoming His disciples.
In the modern church, we don't position discipleship this way. We try to make it appealing so more people say yes.
Jesus, on the other hand, started by explaining that one must give up everything to become His disciple. He was weeding out the half-hearted folks from the very beginning.
He didn't even want them to start discipleship until they had first decided to give up everything to follow Him.
Did you consider the cost of discipleship?
It's easy to calculate: everything. You must be willing to give up everything, from your bank account to your closest relationships, to follow Jesus.
Most churchgoers these days won't even give up ten percent when He is asking for one hundred percent.
Are you protecting your money from Jesus? Are you more faithful to your TV subscription than His leading to put that money elsewhere?
The test of your faithfulness is your relationship with money. Where your treasure is, that's where your heart is.
