I've been called a false prophet hundreds, if not thousands, of times.
This is one of the repercussions of posting videos online that don't appeal to itching ears. Nevertheless, when it all began, I wanted to know if I was really a false prophet or not.
So I went straight to the Word to study every time a false prophet was mentioned. I thought, "Surely, the Bible also gives us a way to identify them."
Turns out, it does. And, I recommend you do your own study. Let me give you a few of the hallmarks.
A false prophet downplays right living, making room for sin. They may operate in the gifts of the Spirit, but they do not have the fruit of the Spirit behind closed doors.
At first, they appear to be legitimate. But upon close examination, you find that the result of their "ministry" is a following that knows how to put on a great performance, but behind closed doors, they are workers of iniquity.
As you study this out, you'll find that getting a date wrong is not what makes someone a false prophet. An inaccurate interpretation of prophecy? Absolutely. But not a false prophet.
You need to know this. Otherwise, the real false prophets will slide by unnoticed while you are busy fussing at people for getting dates wrong.
(Which, by the way, prophecy is not date-setting. More on that later.)
