Jesus knew that the Father had given him authority over everything... so He washed the disciples' feet. (John 13:3-5)
You've heard about this, but likely never realized that Jesus washed feet to demonstrate what true authority looks like.
Jesus knew, without a doubt, that the Father had given Him authority over everything. He didn’t need to prove it. He didn’t need to make people submit.
He was so secure in His authority that He took on the role of a servant. Think about it. Only insecure people lord their authority over others.
As a pastor, I get bad advice from other leaders from time to time. They tell me to hide my everyday self so that all you see is the anointing when I preach. Otherwise, you’ll lose respect.
That’s not what Jesus taught. He led by example, taking off His nice clothes to bend down and wash the disciples' feet. Why? Because His authority wasn’t dependent on how they viewed Him.
Jesus knew that He had authority, whether people realized it or not. He didn’t have to manufacture it by appearance or performance. And this is how we must live our lives.
Christ has given us authority over all the work of the enemy.
We don’t have to work it up. We don’t have to fake it. We can be at ease while we do good and heal all who are oppressed of the devil. Why? Because we know, without a doubt, that Jesus Christ is the King of kings.
