Those who are busy working hard for the Lord are doing a good thing, but there is a higher place that Jesus has made available to us.
It's hard for the hard workers to break through this barrier for many reasons.
There's a lot to do. And if you don't do it, how will it get done?
If you grew up in a hard-working household, you tend to base your value as a human being on how hard you work.
This ties in with the strong desire to fulfill others' expectations, so you work hard to keep them happy.
At the peak of this progression is what happened to Martha in Luke 10. She was busy working. Her sister Mary was not working, but sitting and listening to what Jesus had to say.
Then, she couldn't mumble it under her breath any longer and finally blurted out, "Jesus, don't you see the work I'm doing! Mary is just sitting there. Won't you tell her to help?!"
As much as we hard workers want Jesus to put Mary to work, He didn't. Instead, He praised Mary for choosing the right thing.
It's time to stop working for Jesus and instead work with Him.
Nothing we do matters unless we hear it from Him. And we aren't listening when we are busy doing.
Leave the task list for later. It's time to sit at the feet of Jesus and listen.
